KCET & COMEDK — Everything You Need to Know

What is KCET?

The Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET), conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), is the gateway to undergraduate engineering, pharmacy and other professional courses in Karnataka government-aided and unaided private engineering colleges.

Every year, over 2 lakh candidates appear for KCET. The exam is held in April, with allotment rounds typically happening in July–August.

Allotment Rounds

  • Round 1 — First allotment based on rank & options. Around 75% seats fill here.
  • Round 2 — Upgrades and new allotments for candidates who did not accept Round 1.
  • Round 3 — Final allotment. Remaining seats distributed. Cut-offs usually relax slightly.
  • Spot Round — Very limited vacancies after Round 3 for specific colleges.

How Cutoff Ranks Work

The cutoff rank is the last rank allotted a seat in a specific college-branch-category combination in a particular round. A lower number means a more competitive seat.

For example, if RV College CS-GM Round 1 cutoff is 1,604 — it means a student ranked 1,604 got the last GM-merit seat in CS at RVCE in Round 1 that year.

What is COMEDK?

COMEDK (Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka) conducts a separate entrance test for admission to private engineering colleges in Karnataka not covered under KCET. It accepts students from across India — not just Karnataka.

COMEDK ranks are typically in the range of 1–75,000. Our predictor uses 2024 and 2025 COMEDK cutoff data to predict your likely colleges and courses.

KCET vs COMEDK — Key Differences

  • Eligibility: KCET is primarily for Karnataka domicile students; COMEDK is open to all-India students.
  • Colleges: KCET covers government + govt-aided + unaided colleges. COMEDK covers only private unaided colleges (many overlap).
  • Rank scale: KCET ranks go up to ~1,50,000+; COMEDK ranks go up to ~75,000.
  • Cutoff data we have: KCET — 3 years (2023, 2024, 2025). COMEDK — 2 years (2024, 2025).
  • Rounds: KCET has 3 allotment rounds. COMEDK typically has 2 rounds.

Important Tips for Options Entry (KCET & COMEDK)

  • Add all colleges where you have a chance — not just your dream ones. More options = better chance of a good allotment.
  • Order options from most preferred to least preferred. KEA allots the highest preference you qualify for.
  • Look at all three rounds of previous year data. Round 2 and 3 cutoffs are often higher (relaxed) than Round 1.
  • Don't skip colleges with a slightly higher cutoff — trends vary year to year and your rank may qualify in a different round.
  • Check category-specific cutoffs — OBC and SC/ST cutoffs can differ dramatically from GM.

KCET Allotment Trends 2023–2025

See how KCET cutoff ranks have moved across 2023–2025 for top college-branch combinations. COMEDK data covers 2024–2025. Lower rank = more competitive.

Key Insight 2023–2025: Demand for Computer Science and AI-related branches continues to surge. RVCE CS (GM) tightened from ~1604 (2023) to under 900 (2024–25). Civil and Mechanical branches show more stable or slightly relaxing cutoffs. COMEDK cutoffs are generally higher (numerically) than KCET GM for the same college/branch, reflecting the wider applicant pool.

KCET: Which Category Are You?

KEA uses specific codes for each reservation category. These apply to KCET only — COMEDK is open merit (no caste-based categories). Use the correct KCET category to see accurate results.

Code Full Name Kannadiga (K) Rural (R) Who Qualifies
GM General Merit GMK GMR All Karnataka students (open merit)
SC Scheduled Caste SCK SCR SC community candidates with caste certificate
ST Scheduled Tribe STK STR ST community candidates with caste certificate
1G OBC Category 1 1K 1R Scheduled castes converted to other religions
2AG OBC Category 2A 2AK 2AR Socially & educationally backward classes (Group A)
2BG OBC Category 2B 2BK 2BR Socially & educationally backward classes (Group B)
3AG OBC Category 3A 3AK 3AR Backward classes (Group A — Muslims)
3BG OBC Category 3B 3BK 3BR Backward classes (Group B — Christians)

K suffix = Kannadiga students (studied in Karnataka from 1st to PUC). R suffix = Rural area students. These variants typically have easier (higher number) cutoffs than the base category.
Note: 2022 KEA PDFs used H suffix (e.g. GMH) for the same categories — our system automatically converts these.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our KCET predictions are based on actual KEA official allotment data for 2023, 2024 and 2025. Our COMEDK predictions are based on 2024 and 2025 COMEDK allotment data. We show you the cutoff rank for each year, round and category — so you can see the exact trend. Accuracy depends on how consistently the cutoffs move year to year. For top colleges like RVCE and MS Ramaiah, the data is very consistent. For colleges with fluctuating demand, we show multi-year ranges so you can judge the likelihood yourself.
All 24 KEA reservation categories are supported: GM, GMK, GMR, SC, SCK, SCR, ST, STK, STR, 1G, 1K, 1R, 2AG, 2AK, 2AR, 2BG, 2BK, 2BR, 3AG, 3AK, 3AR, 3BG, 3BK, 3BR. Just select your correct category and the predictor will filter relevant cutoffs automatically.
Round 1 cutoffs are typically the most competitive (lowest ranks = fewer students get in). In Round 2, some students who received allotments don't accept them, freeing seats — so cutoffs sometimes rise (more students can get in). Round 3 has the remaining seats and often the most relaxed cutoffs. Always check all three rounds when planning your options list.
Yes, the 2022 KEA allotment PDFs used a different category code format — with an "H" suffix (e.g. GMH instead of GM, SCH instead of SC, 1H instead of 1G). Our system automatically converts all 2022 codes to the standard format, so you can compare across all years seamlessly. Course abbreviations have also evolved — CS used to mean "Computers" while now it means "Computer Science Engineering"; our normalizer handles all of these differences.
KEA allows up to 200+ options. You should fill as many as possible — there is no penalty. Order them strictly by preference: put your dream college+branch at #1, then work downward to safer options. The system allots you the highest-ranked option you qualify for. Students who fill 50–100+ options have dramatically better chances of a good allotment than students who fill only 10–15.
Kannadiga seats (K suffix — GMK, SCK etc.) are reserved for students who have studied in Karnataka from Class 1 to PUC (or Class 10). Rural seats (R suffix — GMR, SCR etc.) are for students who studied in rural areas. If you qualify for both, you may appear in both lists and should check cutoffs for all applicable codes. The K and R cutoffs are usually easier (higher rank numbers allowed) than the base category.
The ₹549 one-time payment gives you full access for the current KCET admission season. Given the nature of digital data access, refunds are not offered. However, if you face any technical issue where you cannot access the results after payment, please contact us and we will resolve it within 24 hours.
