JEE Main & Advanced Overview

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is conducted for admission to various engineering colleges in India, especially the IITs.

JEE Main

  • Conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency)
  • Gateway for NITs, IIITs, and other engineering colleges
  • Held twice a year (January and April)

JEE Advanced

  • For admission to IITs
  • Only top 2.5 lakh JEE Main qualifiers can appear
  • Held once a year (usually May)

Exam Pattern

JEE Main

  • Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics
  • Total Questions: 90 (30 per subject)
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Marking: +4 for correct, -1 for incorrect

JEE Advanced

  • Two papers (each 3 hours)
  • Questions test conceptual understanding and application
  • Different question patterns (integer type, matrix match, etc.)
